Form 5500 Extension Provided in Florida

Due to the impacts of Hurricane Irma, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is providing tax relief for certain tax filing deadlines. This includes a filing extension on 5500 filings for health and welfare plans to January 31, 2018.

The extension applies to Form 5500 filings with original due dates or extension due dates between September 5, 2017 and January 31, 2018. The impacted plan year start dates are highlighted in blue:

The filing and penalty relief is automatically provided by the IRS to any taxpayer with an IRS address of record in a hurricane disaster area. On September 15th, the IRS expanded relief to any area designated by FEMA as qualifying for assistance, which represents all 67 counties of Florida.
