🏢 April 28th is National Workers Memorial Day, a day of remembrance and respect for workers who have lost their lives due to work-related accidents or illnesses. It is a day to honor the courage and sacrifice of workers and acknowledge the importance of health and safety in the workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act was enacted on April 28th, 1971. At that time, almost 14,000 workers died on the job each year, a rate of 38 workers per day. In the 53 years since OSHA's inception, that rate has been more than halved. However, in 2023, there were still almost 5,200 workplace fatalities, a rate of about 15 per day. Reflecting on National Workers Memorial Day, it is good to see the progress made in protecting workers while recognizing that there is more work to do.
